Calendar and Term Dates
The school strongly holds the view that every lesson counts, and discourages parents from taking children out of school in term time.
Please note that holidays cannot be authorised in term time. However it is recognised that there may be exceptional circumstances in which a child needs to be absent.
These include leave of absence to visit close relatives in hospital and weddings/funerals etc of close family members. Under these conditions, an application for leave of absence during term time must be made to the head teacher in advance of the absence. Forms for these applications are available in the office. Any absence that has not been authorised by the head will be classed as an unauthorised absence.
Children whose attendance is less than 90% are classed as persistent absentees. Missing 10% of school time is equivalent to having a full day off every fortnight. This means persistent absentees miss vital parts of their education and often fall behind.
