Playtimes

"Play is often talked about as if it were a break from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning." Fred Rogers

"It is a happy talent to know how to play." Ralph Waldo Emerson

Did you know, that 20% of children's time at school is playtime? Here at Ambleside, we recognise that play has many benefits and is critical to children's health and well-being and is essential for children's physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual development. We are pleased to be working with OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) on their award-winning OPAL Primary Programme in order to invest in our children's playtimes. All of our staff have undertaken training with OPAL and we have been implementing new features into our playtime provision.

We are blessed with amazing outdoor spaces on our school site and have opened up more of our available space for the children to explore at playtime and to experience different types of play. Children have all year round access to our small-world play, water play, sand play, large loose parts (for construction) and our school forest area and garden.

Children have access to our school garden at playtimes to explore nature and use loose parts to build structures such as dens.

If you would like to see more photographs of our children's playtime experiences, please take a look at our Facebook page for regular updates.
