Special Educational Needs (SENDs)
Our school/Trust SENDs Policy can be found on the school website on the 'Policies and Statements' page which can be found under the 'Information' tab at the top of the website homepage. Further information about how the school supports children with SENDs can be found in our SENDs Information Report in the downloads at the bottom of this page.
The school's Special Educational Needs co-ordinator (SENDCo) is the headteacher, Mrs Broom. Class teachers are responsible for the provision provided in their classes to support pupils with SEND and class teachers will liaise with parents over SEND provision and to set individual targets for their child to support them in making progress in the areas where they require additional support. In addition to class teachers, Mrs Broom is available to join meetings with class teachers and parents of children with SENDs to discuss their child's individual education plan. As SENDCo, Mrs Broom is responsible for making referrals for children with SENDs to educational services, such as speech and language therapists, educational psychologists and the Early Help team for SENDs.
Westmorland and Furness SEND IAS Service (Information, Advice and Support Service) is a valuable service open to parents of children with SENDs and offers up to date information, impartial advice and practical support to parents/carers of children with special educational needs or severe medical conditions (disabilities), which affect the way their child can access education.
