Our Curriculum
'Life in all its fullness'
Our school curriculum
At Ambleside Church of England Primary School, we aim to provide a curriculum that meets the needs of all our pupils but also offers exciting and meaningful learning opportunities that motivate and inspire them. Our school adopts a holistic approach to education underpinned by our vision: ‘Life in all its fullness’.
We deliver an ambitious curriculum and have high expectations for what all children can achieve. Our curriculum incorporates learning from topics and subjects in our local surrounding areas. For example, we study historical figures from the Lake District and investigate geographical features of the local area. We strive to include learning in the outdoors as much as possible as we believe that children benefit greatly from this. Our children engage in outward bound activities in the local area every term, such as canoeing, climbing and orienteering, and all year groups take part in regular Forest School sessions in our school garden and school woodland areas.
The curriculum maps below outline which areas are being studied in each subject of the curriculum. The school has a two year rolling programme for its curriculum to ensure that all areas of the National Curriculum are covered during children's time in each key stage. As a two-year cycle progresses, children are able to make links with previous learning to further deepen their understanding of different subjects.
For our children in Early Years, we base our learning around Development Matters.
